Cleary, Red Wings rally past Kings

12/20/2008 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Dan Cleary scored the game-winning goal with 1:34 remaining in the third period, as the Detroit Red Wings rallied past the Los Angeles Kings, 6-4, at Joe Louis Arena.

Jiri Hudler and Pavel Datsyuk both registered a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who have won seven of their last nine games. Nicklas Lidstrom collected three helpers and Ty Conklin made 22 saves to earn his 10th win of the season.

Dustin Brown and Kyle Calder each posted a goal and an assist for the Kings, who have lost four games in a row. Jonathan Quick, making just his third career start, allowed five goals on 35 shots in a losing cause.

The game was deadlocked at three heading into the third period and Brown put Los Angeles on top just 2:25 into the frame. Jarret Stoll carried the puck down the left wing and faked the shot to freeze the Detroit netminder before sending a cross-ice to the right circle for Brown, who ripped a shot past a diving Conklin.

The Red Wings drew even with 3:43 remaining. Lidstrom fed Valtteri Filppula, stationed at the left side of the net, and he slipped the puck through the slot to Hudler, who didn't miss from in close.

Moments later, Cleary pulled up in the right circle and rifled a shot that made its way through heavy traffic with 1:34 left in regulation.

Kris Draper added an empty-net goal to seal the victory for Detroit.

Los Angeles opened the scoring 1:46 into the game on Trevor Lewis' first career tally. The 17th overall pick by the Kings in the 2006 draft, Lewis made his NHL debut in Friday's 5-0 loss at Buffalo.

Datsyuk tied the score at 8:40 and Andreas Lilja gave Detroit a 2-1 edge at the 12:22 mark. Alexander Frolov equalized the score for LA just 31 seconds later.

Mikael Samuelsson restored the lead for Detroit with 1:20 left in the middle stanza, but Calder evened the score 16 seconds later.
